The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every child—in every school and every neighborhood—has access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school college- and career-ready.
The Senior Financial Analyst will, under general supervision, prepare and submit grant claims; design and implement computerized accounting systems and internal controls to ensure operational efficiency; assist in the development of grant related work standards and processes; supervise the auditing and reconciling of accounts ensuring the accurate and appropriate allocation of funds; review forecasts of anticipated expenses and revenues ensuring projections are based on valid economic trends; coordinate the preparation of replies to auditors findings and develop processes and procedures to implement audit recommendations; conduct and coordinate staff training and development. Performs related duties as required.
- Develop complex reimbursable grant claims, including expenditure reports and close out documents to ensure accuracy, completeness and timeless of grant accounting and reporting.
- Manage complex, large volume grants and takes the initiative to increase grant funding.
- Minimize the risk of non-compliance with Federal, State and Local requirements and deadlines.
- Assist in the development of Single Audit finding responses and collaborate with user departments to create and implement action plans.
- Verify the information in the Gifts, Grants and Donations module to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and requirements.
- Create, on a monthly basis, the grants aging report for management review.
- Ensure the accuracy of grants related transactions in the Oracle Accounts Receivable module.
- Ensure the various work-papers prepared by staff, as well as the fiscal data compiled for inclusion in the Supplementary Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) are completed accurately and within the established deadlines.
- Review and approve the weekly, monthly and annual Accounts Receivable Journal Entry Detail Report (Sub-Ledger Report).
- Function as a liaison on grant accounting related issues with various departments such as Grants Management, Budget, Central Office Units and Schools.
- Education Required - Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or business related field. Master’s Degree is or status as a Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
- Experience Required – 5 or more years monitoring, accounting for and reporting on Federal, State and Local grants in a large government or non-profit organization.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including advanced Excel skills (V-lookups, Pivot Tables, etc). Advanced Oracle experience in a large government organization is preferred.
- CPS employees are required to be actual residence of the City of Chicago within six months of beginning employment, and are required to maintain Chicago residency throughout employment.
